Editing blog for MV

This past week we started editing. Or at least tried to. We had many hiccups this past week in editing. When we first got to class on Tuesday the first thing we started to do was dump our footage. But since we had the footage on our phones it took a lot longer then we expected. When we were waiting, we downloaded the song and we dumped it on our computer After all the footage was done processing, we launched Pinnacle Studios and started to import all our files. This also took a long time. When it finished we saw something we'd never want to see. Our footage was corrupted.
When we saw all our footage was corrupted, we checked the footage file and we saw it as a MOV file. MOV files are mostly used for apple products so, it didn't work well with the Windows computers. Since we realized we need an MP4 file instead of a MOV we went on the web and tried a converter. This took forever. Every website we used only allowed 2 different conversions per day so it took longer, and we had to switch websites every time we finished with two files. By the time the class ended, we only got finished with about half of those files. Since Peter didn't do a lot of filming he offered to convert them all when he got home so we can edit perfectly today. It didn't go as planned.
When we showed up to class we got a computer and I launched pinnacle studios so we could start. Then the computer dies on me. I think it would only be one computer that wouldn't work but i was wrong. We tried 3 computers before we had to ask Ms. Cats. She had to try about 4 more until she gave us one. When we got on this computer we had all our files on a flash drive and we dumped them into the computer. When we launched pinnacle studios and imported the files, only half of them worked. Zeke and I look over at Peter and asked: "Did you convert the files?" and he said no. Since we didn't even start to edit yet we asked Ms. Cats if we can have extra time and thankfully she said yes. After that, we logged out of the computer and left the class.

Filming blog 2

For this blog, I'm going to tell you how I finished filming our music video. Since we only finished one half of the project, we went and finished the rest Sunday night. Zeke and I biked from our houses to Young Circle. Peter didn't end up coming because he had stuff planned already. Since we had to get more shots, Zeke wore the same clothes as last time. When we got there we called Sydney and waited. Sydney took her time to come, but, she was doing us a favor so we were patient. Eventually, she got there and we realized three bad things. All of our phones were dead, we had no camera, and there was a huge concert there.
So as we realized that we were in trouble because we had no camera to film and our phones were dead we came up with a solution. We could charge our phones in Publix. So when we got to Publix, we locked our bikes up and rushed inside. We looked everywhere but there were no outlets. Until I checked the bathroom. As i saw the outlet Zeke and I raced inside to charge our phones. We got our phones to 20% and we left Publix. Now we had to figure out a way to film with all the commotion in the background. I thought we should've waited until Monday night to finish but Zeke was determined to finish that. So we ended up filming, even with everything in the background.
So the shot we left off on was the part where Sydney (Delilah) is confused about where Zeke(Singer) is. So the first shot we filmed Sunday was tracking to a wide shot of Sydney sitting down on a bench sad and confused. We had to redo this shot a couple of times because Sydney couldn't sit correctly. The Second shot we took was a wide shot of Zeke sitting down next to Sydney and singing to her. We messed up a couple of times because Zeke kept laughing. The last shot we took was the final shot. It was an over the shoulder to a long shot of Sydney and Zeke hugging and walking into the distance. After this, our phones died but we thankfully finished. Now we need to dump and edit and we will be finished with this project.

Filming blog 1

For this blog, I am going to talk about how I started filming. We filmed some of the music video on Saturday. Originally we weren't going to film on Saturday but in a spur of the moment we ended up filming. So on Saturday Zeke and I was hanging out and we decided we should get some of our music video filmed. So we called Peter and our friend Sydney to come to film at Young Circle. Originally, Zeke and I were going to bike there from Zekes, but we ended up taking a car to get there because of the equipment. We brought the tripod, camera, and guitar. We arrived at Young Circle at sundown and we sat and waited for Peter and Sydney to come. When they came we set everything up and we were ready to film. Then we realized something major. The camera wasn't charged.
When we saw that the camera wasn't charged we got scared. We raced around the whole park scrambling for a charger port. We came out unlucky. When we realized we couldn't use the camera we put everything away and decided to use our phones. At first, we were going to use Peter's phone but we ended up using mine. The reason we used my phone because its an iPhone 8+ and it can record 4K video. Now we had everything sat up.
For all of the filming done, we followed the storyboard. Zeke played the singer and our friend Sydney was Delilah. Peter and I filmed the music video. So for the first couple of shots, I directed where everyone needed to go and Peter filmed it. Halfway through shooting Peter had to leave so I took over. We did most of the things right with a few miss shots here and there but we got half of the project done. After we finished that Sydney and Zeke had to leave so we all went home.

Story board for music video

For our second blog, we are finishing our story board and writing about what we drew and did. The story board was no different then our last project. We planned out between us what we wanted our commercial to look like and what scenes we wanted to include. It took us a while to agree on how we wanted to film our scene but in the end we came through. The only difference is that because this video is considerably longer, so  is our story board. Instead of 6 slides, we made 12. We began by watching the original video to get some ideas. The whole video revolves around the idea of a distance relationship and the love they share. Our video complements this in the idea that when Delilah thinks hard enough about her true love, he will appear. That's exactly what goes on in our story board.
For our first slide, it shows a man singing on his guitar sitting on a stool. The back ground is blank and he's alone with the lyrics of his song. The second slide brings us the park, or "New York." The dark sky, with the many lights lighting it up. Just like New York. This is when Delilah appears on our third slide. She's walking on the path as she thinks of of her true love some where far away. She passes a tree and the sound of her true loves voice fills the air. She turns towards the tree and see's nothing but a normal tree. It was in her head she assumes in this 6th slide. We get a medium close up of her confused expression on the 6th slide as well. It happens again in the 7th slide. His voice fills the air except this time it sounds closer. Almost real. She turns around again just to see nothing but air again in the 8th slide. She sits on a nearby bench and cries. She regrets leaving him and misses him with everything she has. She lifts her head and there he stands. He flew all the way to her and surprised her. The other times she thought she heard him may have been in her head but this time it was real. Their love brought each other together again. They hug and set down the path of lights holding hands while humming the song he made for her together.

Planning for media studies

Coming into our next project, we have a lot of new variables to consider. These variables include location, health and safety, props, costumes, and finally our schedule. Being that our music video will have a dark kind of gloomy feel, we plan to have our variables work along with this tone. For the location, we know that we want it somewhere dark with a lot of little and pretty lights. This is as close we will get to a New York feel. A place where we know we can get this is Young Circle. Young Circle has a lot of different environment types and we plan to use all of them. From the park, to the little restaurants that surround the circle. We will be filming in a public place and people will surround us adding to the effect of a big city. With this said, some health and safety precautions must be in play while filming. For starters there will be a lot of people potentially with intentions to steal camera equipment or harm us. We will make sure our parents come and supervise while we our filming. A First aid kit will also be on site because we plan to perform a few small stunts by our actor/singer. This may include climbing a tree or sitting on a high wall. We obviously aren't gonna have our actor/singer playing the air guitar so we will be bringing a guitar. That's pretty much it for props. That brings us to costumes. We will be dressing our girl actor with regular modern clothing and our male singer/actor in modern clothing. The clothing will be the same as always. The song was made recently so the singers and actors should match the time period.
Being that this is a time sensitive project, we have to follow very strict timelines on certain due dates throughout the two week period. We started on 11/14. Song choice, and genre convention. This was not a problem because we as a group easily picked a song. 11/20 is our planning blog. Well because i'm doing it right now and not having a problem with it, it will be turned in as planned. 11/25 will be the time to turn in our filming blog. I felt this was one of the easier blogs on our last project so turning this one in on time I think will be the easiest. We'll simply do our filming and right the processes. 12/6 is the final due date. This I know will be turned in on time because if not it will have an extreme impact on my grade. As a group, the need to finish this project and turn it in on time is a responsibility that we feel the need to fulfill. All the other turn in dates after are straight forward. You do what you have to do and turn it in on time. Should be no problem. If we do run into the possibility that we can't turn in a project on time we will pass the responsibility to one of our three group members. Either way, we will not accept a failing grade on one of our due dates and will exercise any way to make sure we do well.

Intro/research to Music Video

Since the commercial is now done we can now start our new project. This project we are starting now is a music video. But things are a little different. Zeke and I decided to split groups with Roscoe and Paige. Paige and Roscoe usually got into a lot of arguments with us on what we wanted to do so we decided that it was best for us to split up. Now we also have a new addition to our group. We wanted to add Peter to our group because he was alone and he is a hard-worker so we wanted to partner with him. For this project, we have to create a one minute & 15-second music video. We are going to it in the alternative rock genre. We are also going to film outside of school so this genre works well with what we're trying to do.
The music video we are doing is The Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah". It is a good fit for this because we know a little about this song and this genre. Since this music video will be filmed outside of school we have a lot of creativity with this video. The song is about lovers who moved far away. We plan to make the music video similar to the real music video but not a carbon copy. We like the idea of the singer singing to his lover and the lover singing back in different frames.
Like I said before the song is apart of the genre alternative rock or "pop-rock". We've looked through many different pop-rock music videos and gathered information on some conventions. We've noticed a lot in the genre is that singers are singing to different people. With this most of the camera angles/ shots include but are not limited to, close-ups, tracking shots, establishing shots, eye level, and dutch shots. We also saw a lot of pan shots like flash pans, zooms, and tracking. The sound we found was pretty straight forward and a lot of singing. For editing, there were a lot of jump cuts and split screens. We also identified all the CLAMPS in this project.
1. Costumes- The costumes the used were usually suits, pants, and formal clothes.
2. Lighting- The lighting was very colorful or gloomy.
3. Actors- For actors, it was either the two people singing to each other or some background dancers.
4. Music- The music was the music the video was about.
5. Props- Depending on the settings props changed from guitars to beach balls or stools even. It was completely depended on the setting.
6 Setting- the rhythm of the song commonly decided the setting. The setting changed based on the speed or the meaning of the song.

Editing (again)

Tuesday and today we got some work done on our editing. Since the other days, the desktops wouldn't load pinnacle studios so we got laptops. Since the computers weren't working that day we ended up saving all our files to a flash drive. So on Tuesday, we needed to start working to finish before the due date for today.
So the first thing we did was get our laptops. I checked out our laptop from the cart and then we started working on the editing. The computer was pretty slow so we waited a while for it to turn on and load. Eventually, Paige was able to log on and we started our work. We plugged in the flash drive and opened up pinnacle studios. Even though it took a long time to load up, it worked. First, we imported all our files onto the editor and started arranging it on the timeline. Then we detached the audio and started recording our voiceovers. We added text to our commercial and class was almost over. Then we saved all our work to the flash drive, I put our computer back and we left class.
Today we tried finishing editing but nothing would work. So today we had a substitute teacher and we had to finish our work. The laptop cart was there so we were able to work on our commercial. I checked out and got our computer and Paige signed into it. When we plugged in the flash drive everything was working smoothly. Until we opened up pinnacle studios. It was extremely slow and we could barely do anything. We realized that we wouldn't be able to finish our work on time so we went and got a new laptop.  This laptop was a little bit faster but we still weren't able to get much done. But since today was a PSD we only had 45-minute classes and we had to leave early. We logged out of both computers and returned them and left class.

Editing blog (well not really)

Today we finished filming but didn't start editing. Since we didn't finish filming on Thursday we decided we needed to finish the filming today. Also, this time we did not have a shoe problem. Roscoe brought his air max 1's, I brought my Jordans, Zeke brought his slides and Paige brought her slides. We were fully ready to complete the filming process. The first thing we did was get all the camera equipment and we headed to the building 5 stairs to refilm our comfort shot. The reason why we refilmed our comfort shot was that we didn't want Zekes 270's to be in both the sport and comfort shots. We got Paige to film me, Zeke and roscoe going down the stairs and jumping on the patio.
The next thing I did was acting in the comfort scene. Since our friend Peter wanted Zeke and Roscoe to help film his commercial, Paige and I stayed back to finish ours. For this, I wore Zekes slides and sat down on the couch in the media studies class. Paige wanted me to look comfortable so I crossed my legs while sitting down and Paige got the shot. After this, we needed to finish dumping all our footage. However, we did run into a slight setback. We forgot the computer number we saved our footage on. Eventually, we did find the computer and we finished dumping. But again, we had another setback. None of the computers pinnacle studios worked.
Since none of the computers could edit we couldn't finish our project. But since most of the computers didn't work Ms. Cats gave us an extension. Even though the computers were extremely slow we needed to transfer all of our work. We decided we will transfer and dump all of our files on Paige's flash drive. It ended up working. After that, we returned all our equipment and finished the class.

Filming blog

When we filmed I did many things. I filmed some parts of our commercial, went into the commercial, and helped my friend film some of his commercials. So the first thing I did was get all the camera things set up. Since Paige signed the sheet for all the camera equipment I went and set everything up. We first went to the track field where we found a spot with some shade and good lighting. I took out everything with them and we set up the tripod on the corner of the field in the grass. But we ran into a little setback. We forgot some of the shoes. However, we did end up managing to finish most of the commercial.
After we realized we didn't bring some of the shoes we went and used our friend's pair of the same shoes. In the first shot, I shot a few clips of Zeke running in his Nike Air Max 270's. But again we had a little setback. Our camera was super zoomed in. Eventually, we ended up figuring out how to zoom out and we continued filming our commercial. Since the first couple of shots were good we also got a few other shots in my shoes. They put the camera on the floor and recorded me running into the frame. Then after that, our friend Peter needed us to record some shots for him and we did. I recorded an over the shoulder shot for him. Then we finally packed everything up and went to film the second part of our commercial.
Since this part of the commercial was fashion, we decided to film on the building 5 stairs. Since we didn't have the Air force 1's and the Jordans we decided to change up the fashion part of the commercial. We changed the shot of just the shoes on the steps to a more competitive scene. Since Paige was wearing vans we decided to make a part of the commercial with the vans in it. We made Paige stand in the middle of the staircase, made Zeke slide down the railing and kick her shoes and I got a close up of the Nike shoes. After that, we went back to class, got an sd card reader and dumped all the footage onto the computer. When we finished I got the sign-in sheet and returned the sd card reader. Paige returned all the camera equipment and the class ended.

Editing lesson blog

I learned many things today. I learned how to film with a camera and a tripod, check out a camera, how to dump, how to import and export files, and how to cut video and detach audio. The first thing i learned was how to film with a camera and a tripod. The second thing i learned was how to check out a camera. First, you get and fill out the equipment agreement paper. Then you bring the form to the teacher. After that, you write the equipment information on a form ( What # you got) and when you finish you place the form in the period folder.
The second thing i learned was how to put everything on the computer. Before you start to edit you dump all your files onto the computer. First, you look for the pinnacle studio app. Then before you click it you open a new folder on the desktop and plug in your sd card reader with your sd card in it. After that, you open the DICM folder and drag all your video files onto the new folder. If the footage isn't found on the DICM then go to the AVCHD and it'll be in the stream. After that, you eject the sd card reader, put sd card in bag and put the sd card reader back on the desk. All of this is called dumping.
The last thing i learned was how to import, export, and edit. First, you load the pinnacle studios app and make sure it doesn't crash (let it load). Then, you click on the + sign. After that, you click on the folder you dumped all the videos in and check all of the raw footage you want to use (unedited video). After that drag all the footage you want onto the middle gray box. All the text goes in the first box and all the sound goes in the last box. I also learned how to do effects. To do effects you click on the footage, click on effects editor and click any effect you need. I also learned how to cut video and detach audio using the tools in the bar. When your done editing for the day you can save it like any other program and when you're completely done you hit export.

Planning Blog For Nike Shoe Commercial

Props- Some of the props we are going to use for our commercial are sports apparel, specifically Nike shoes. The actors in our commercial will have something that relates to sports, like a water bottle, basketball or they may be wearing headphones. The main subject of the commercial, the shoes, will be our main props. The exact shoes we will be using are Nike Air Force 1's, Nike Roshes, Nike Air Max's, Nike Jordan's, and Nike Slides.

Costumes- The actors will be dressed in clothes that go with the shoe that the actor is wearing. For example, when the actors are running they will be dressed in athletic clothes (as much Nike clothes as possible). The costumes play an important role when it comes to the commercial because we want the shoes to look the best they can so people will be provoked to buy them.

Schedule- Our next blog will be a storyboard of our commercial. the story boarding will be on October 14. The next objective is filming. the filming will be taking place on October 17 witch is a early release and the next following blue day, October 22. After filming we will edit our footage. the editing will be on October 23.

Location List-  We are filming in many different places. For our athletic shoes we are going to film at the track field to do a running scene. For our comfort shoes we are going to use the couch in the media studies classroom. For our stylish shoes we will be filming at the building 5 stairs, we will use the stairs by filming the actors walking.

Back-up plan- In case of an unfortunate scenario while filming, we have ideas ready to counter the situation. It is not unlikely that while filming rain will be present. That's why our idea to embrace the rain rather than hide from it will be beneficial. In case of rain, we plan to use puddles and rain to show how well our shoes hold up against any environment. Rain is not the only factor, we also have to bring into consideration the possibility of our team mate being absent. Thankfully, our commercial does not need 4 actors. We will work to play the part our teammate was supposed to.

Research Conventions and Codes

Research Conventions and Codes
Before even thinking about the production of our Nike shoe commercial, many aspects that must go into play include:
·         Setting
·         Lighting
·         Products
·         Actors
·         Props
·         Music
·         Voice overs and other editing
·         Camera angles
Setting takes much consideration as it starts us on our way to our commercial. In our commercial, we think an outdoor environment would convey the idea that Nike shoes can be worn in many different environments and will hold up. We will also use an indoor setting to shoe other uses for Nike shoes, such as comfort.
Lighting for our commercial would mostly be natural outdoor lighting. When being filmed indoors a spotlight may be used to highlight the shoes and make them look better.
Products are the shoes that are being used in the film. We will use many different types of shoes like Nike Roche’s for running, Nike Slides for comfort and Air Force One’s for style.
Actors are the people who wear and highlight the shoes abilities.
Props are all the other items we will use in our commercial. For example, a runner might be holding a water bottle or someone playing basketball might be wearing headphones.
Music in the commercial gives the viewer a better understanding of what the shoe is made and designed for. We wouldn’t use a laid back and chill song when trying to show off some Air Jordan’s. In our commercial, we will be using a hyped song when showing off sports shoes, a chill song when showing slides, and laid back when showing comfort shoes.
Voice overs and other editing is important to our commercial so it’s not only up to viewer interpretation when seeing the shoe in action. A voice over will be able to explain the shoe or even some back round. Our commercial will have voice overs throughout to make it easier for our viewers. The tone of the voice over will change according to the purpose of each shoe.
Camera Angles will be seen changing multiple times throughout the commercial. Depending on the scene, a different camera angle will be implemented into the commercial. We will use angles such as close-ups of the shoes, and tracking shots of our actors in the shoe.

First AICE Media Studies blog

Hello, my name is Elijah. I am 14 years old, Haitian and I was born and raised in Florida. I like to bike, play video games and hang out with friends. I currently attend Fort Lauderdale High School and I am a freshman. I'm a very likable, nice, and funny person.
Like I said before, I like many things. I bike and I pretty much do BMX. I have this type of bike called an SE bike. It comes in many different versions and my bike has 29" wheels. Its made to wheelie and do tricks, so its a really fun thing I do with my friends in my free time. I used play video games a lot but now I usually bike more. Some of my favorite games are GTA V, NBA 2K, Call of Duty and Super Smash Brothers. I don't like to be rushed and to wait on something or something. I know it may seem hypocritical but trust me its not. I also like a lot of Caribbean food.
I take 7 classes in my school plus a free period. My first class is chemistry. Many people think its hard but I find it fairly easy. My second class is study hall. I get to do work in that class. My third class is General paper. Its an English and writing class. My fourth class is Global prospectives. We learn about different viewpoints on different topics. My fifth class is Debate and we debate over specific topics in that class. My sixth class is Media studies. We learn about movies and how to make them. My seventh class is Comm tech. We learn about photoshop. My eighth class is Algebra 2. I think its pretty hard. And that's all about me!
